Milk Tooth - Emergency Dentist London
We don't normally have many patients that come for any treatment that have any Milk tooth still inplace in their mouth but, our dentists are prepared to handle them.
We call these teeth Milk Teeth because of their white colour which resembles the colour of Milk. They are whiter than permanent teeth which follow through and replace them.
One of the many important functions that baby teeth perform is serving as place holders for the permanent teeth that will replace them.
Milk teeth are very important so it is essential to look after them well. Milk teeth are important for speech and language development and they enable children to eat properly. Milk teeth are also important for determining the the reationship between the upper and lower sets of teeth. The teeth also help to support the cheeks.
About Milk Teeth
Milk teeth, also known as baby ordeciduous teeth, are the first set of human teeth to develop. Most children start to develop milk teeth from around the age of 6 months old and there are 20 milk teeth in total. Most children have a complete set of milk teeth by the age of 2.
Most Milk teeth generally start to fall out at the young age of six, however they may fall out before this time if they are not looked after properley. Many people will find that their child may lose their Milk teeth as a accident or a injury.
Increasingly, younger children are losing teeth early as a result of decay and some dentists have reported seeing children as young as 2 who need their teeth extracted as a result of extensive decay.
When milk teeth fall out, they are replaced by adult teeth.
Adult teeth usually start to erupt between the ages of 6 and 13 and most children have all their adult teeth by the age of 14. There are 32 adult teeth; the four wisdom teeth do not usually come through until the age of 17 or 18 and some people may never get wisdom teeth.
It has happened also in our dental practice that an adult person still has had a milk tooth at the age of 25 and of course it needed special treatment as well.
